Water borne diseases are still a problem in Haiti, especially among the poor population. This can be directly related to low levels of water and sanitation coverage as well as poor household and personal hygiene practices. Cleaning products are extremely expensive in Haiti. Most of Haiti’s consumers buy imported cleaning products that are sold in plastic bottles or in plastic “pouches”, polluting Haiti’s environment.

DIGO distributes bleach, detergent soap and disinfectants that are locally produced by DIGO Enterprises. This increases access to affordable bleach and other cleaning products to improve household sanitation and promote better health. DIGO allows customers to bring their own plastic containers to sales points; reducing costs for the customers and also reducing plastic waste in Haiti.

DIGO works with micro-entrepreneurs to help sell domestic cleaning products. At end 2015, DIGO is already providing income opportunities to over 350 micro-entrepreneurs, reaching over 50.000 beneficiaries.
