Worldwide, unsafe drinking water from rivers, lakes and ponds—coupled with the absence of even the most basic sanitation–kills 1.6 million children under the age of 5 every year. In Cambodia, 80% of the population lives in rural areas, where most have no access to safe drinking water. Two entrepreneurs—Frenchman François Jaquenoud and Cambodian Chay Lo—responded by joining forces to launch 1001 Fontaines.
