Professor Yunus Joins IOC President to Welcome Refugee Olympic Team

Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus was especially invited by IOC President Thomas Bach to join him in the flag raising ceremony of the Refugee Olympic Team at the Olympic Village on August 3. He joined in the official ceremony to welcome the team into the Village and to witness the flag raising of the Refugee Olympic Team along with five other teams that evening.
There are ten athletes who form the Refugee Olympic Team from South Sudan. Ethiopia, Syria, Democratic Republic of Congo participating in athletics, judo and swimming during the Rio 2016 games. The flag that was raised for them was the Olympic Flag. Rose Lokonyen the track athlete from South Sudan recognized Professor Yunus and came over to take a photo with him.
Professor Yunus sat through the ceremony flanked by Thomas Bach, President of the IOC, and Jacques Rogge, the former President of the IOC, in an exclusive program inside the Olympic Village. Professor Yunus was earlier given a tour of the Olympic Village and facilities courtesy of the IOC.
