Yunus inaugurates Grameen America's new branch in Harlem

Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus inaugurated on September 25, 2014 Grameen America Inc's (GAI) brand new branch in the borough of Harlem in New York City.
This is the 7th branch in New York City including those operating in Jackson Heights, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx and Manhattan. Grameen America currently operates 19 branches in 8 US cities targeting and educating the women of low income. Andrea Jung, CEO of GAI, other senior managers and staff of GAI, and potential clients were all present at the colorful branch opening in Harlem.
Earlier in the week, Professor Yunus, Andrea Jung and Hillary Rodham Clinton jointly announced before a packed hall Grameen America's commitment to invest $50 million in over 7,000 women-owned businesses in Harlem through 2020 at the 10th Annual Clinton Global Meeting in New York City.

Professor Yunus was in New York to participate in the 10th Annual Clinton Global Meeting and UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon's MDG Advocacy Group Meeting from 20-29 September. This meeting brought together leaders from the business, foundation, NGO, and government sectors to develop solutions for economic growth, long-term competitiveness, and social mobility. During the visit, Professor Yunus had several meetings with state, business and NGO leaders and discussed issues of mutual interest.
Professor Yunus also participated in sixth Climate Week NYC from September 22-28 organized by the Climate Group. The B Team hosted a live panel climate discussion on redefining the role of business in society, hosted by Sir Richard Branson, Professor Muhammad Yunus, Paul Polman and Mary Robinson.
Prime Minister,of Haiti Laurent Lamothe met in New York with Professor Yunus to discuss progress of Yunus Social Business' program in Haiti intended to help create jobs and reduce the country's dependence on international aid. They discussed the progress of the reforestation project in Haiti to encourage people to protect the forests and accelerate reforestation of the country which is one of the main priorities of the Haitian Government.
In addition, Professor. Yunus addressed Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Advocacy Group meeting during the 69th UN General Assembly with the UN Secretary General in attendance as well as President Kagame of Rwanda, Graca Machel of South Africa, Sheikha Moza of Qatar among other advocates of the UN Secretary General.
Professor Yunus participated as key note speaker at the Social Good Summit; attended high level business meeting organized by JP Morgan and participated with former President Bill Clinton at the Hult Prize Award Ceremony where he was a judge to select top social businesses contesting for a million dollar prize called Hult Prize for Social Entrepreneurship.
Professor Yunus had separate meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and German Development Minister Dr Gerd Mueller, and discussed microcredit and social business.
