The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) invited Nobel Peace Laureate - Professor Muhammad Yunus to speak at the I.CARE University Lecture series in October 2015. It was exceptionally wonderful and inspiring. The lecture inspired audience with innovative possibilities of social business as a solution to poverty. CUHK then took the lead to pursue the vision in Hong Kong.

CUHK has obtained permission from Prof. Muhammed Yunus to name the Centre after him and to leverage on his enormous experience, expertise, insights and reputation for the purpose of educating young people in Hong Kong for alleviation of poverty through social business. The Centre believes that young people are the hope of society. They are the main catalyst to motivate social advancement. They are the important partners in the eradication of poverty.

With CUHK providing overall direction and support, this experiential and pilot learning provided by YSBC@CUHK would extend the duration of learning of students after their graduation until the social business projects become self-sustaining. The success of this experiment would mark a significant step forward in Hong Kong young people’s role in sustainable poverty alleviation.
