Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) signed Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) with Mr. Sarkar Ardhendu (Ripon) on Monday 16th March, 2015 at 61st Social Business Design Lab, held at Grameen Bank Auditorium. The ceremony was presided over by Chairman of Grameen Telecom Trust, Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus. Ms. Parveen Mahmud (Managing Director, GTT) & Mr. Sarkar Ardhendu (Ripon) signed the agreement on behalf of Grameen Telecom Trust and the managing partners.
GTT and Mr. Sarkar Ardhendu (Ripon) will jointly form a new social business company named ‘Green Tech Limited”, related to the Generation of Electricity & Production of Fly Ash Brick. The initiative will enable 2000 energy-deprived marginal households (comprising of approximately 10,000 people) to have access to electricity. It will be cost-effective for both current solar panel users who are very limited in number and people who do not have access to electricity at all, as biomass electricity will provide added services such as operation of light bulbs; refrigerator; television; etc. There will be an added impact of fly-ash brick project. Eco-friendly production process of fly-ash brick plant will substantially reduce pollution and will provide a good alternative to the highly-polluting conventional brick plants. A point to be noted is fly ash till today is a polluting by-product which is usually dumped over in the nature. Hence this plant will be an innovative source of converting a polluting agent to a raw-material.
