Yunus Welcomed by 25,000 tribal children in KISS, Bhubaneswar, India

Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus visited the Kalinga Institute of Social Science (KISS) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India on 9 January, 2017. KISS is a unique organization in whole of India where 25000 children from disadvantaged tribal communities from Odisha and neighboring states get modern residential school and college education .They come here as small children at pre-school level and remain here till they get a bachelor degree with a drop out rare of zero. The institute had a great celebration on the occasion of the visit by Professor Yunus. The big zone of the city which houses the two sister organizations KISS and KIIT ( Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology), comprising of a famous private university , a medical college and hospital and a renowned international school. took a festive look with big festoons displaying the portrait of Professor Yunus. He was received by Dr. Achyuta Samanta , the founder of both KISS and KIIT , and was taken to different parts of KIIT with its total of 30, 000 students including 550 foreign students. This is a premier educational facility in the state of Odisha.
Professor Yunus' visit to KISS was a grand event with 25,000 tribal children of various age receiving him with their own band party, giving him guard of honor, and escorting him to their convention hall with continuous performance by their various groups in a variety of tribal dances with accompanying music. Professor Yunus was introduced by Dr. Samanta to an assembly of eight thousand senior girl students explaining the contribution made by Professor Yunus for the empowerment of women.
Professor Yunus in his speech to them talked about Bangladesh, the children of Grameen families and about his works for these families. He encouraged them to use the opportunities they got from KISS well and reminded them of their tremendous potential. Professor Yunus used both English and Bangla in the speech because the children learned good English and also Oria language which has a good resemblance to bangla even though their mother tongues are various tribal languages. They responded with the expression of great joy.
The founder Dr. Samanta explained to Professor Yunus the problems of the tribal communities in the region and his long efforts to build these facilities here. He requested Professor Yunus' support and guidance in accomplishing his mission.
