Screening Camps

Grameen Trust (GT) conducted two ‘Nobin Udyokta (NU) Screening Camps’ at Manikgonj and Dhamrai on April 27, 2015 and two others in Torpurchondi, Chandpur and Sonapur, Laxmipur on November 5-6, 2014. The objectives of the Screening Camps were to identify, support and promote NUs—the 2ndgeneration of the Grameen family.

The ‘Screening Camps’ brought together 300 prospective and potential NUs who dream not to be job seekers but job givers. The program was inaugurated by Professor H. I. Latifee, Managing Director of GT. Professor Latifee, in his inaugural speech, depicted the evolution of the Nobin Udyokta Program (NUP) and emphasized on the power of the youth and explained how the youth can play a vital role in building a society free from the curse of youth unemployment. During the meeting, Abdul Hai Khan, General Manager of GT, discussed the definition of NU and the basic principles of Social Business. Mir Hossain Chowdhury, Head of Social Business Program of GT, explained the different aspects of NUP in the session.

Every Screening Camp was followed by an interactive ‘Question & Answer Session.’ Questions from one of the ‘Question & Answer Session’ included, how much time it takes for appraising the project proposals and whether there is any fee charged for submitting the applications and processing it. The participants were satisfied to learn from Professor Latifee, that there is no fee charged for submitting applications and processing it and the time needed for approval will depend on the accuracy of information and the merit of the proposal.

There will be held a ‘Screening Camp’ at Singair Unit on May 13, 2015 where more than hundred potential NUs are expected to attend. A‘Review Meeting’ for NU field staff is scheduled to be held on May 17-18, 2015 at GT Head Office in Dhaka.
