Indian premier Modi honours Dr Yunus with gold medal

Bangladesh’s maiden Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus has been honoured with a gold medal by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his contribution to the society.

The gold medal was handed over to Dr Yunus during the inaugural ceremony of the 104th Indian Science Congress in Triputi India on January 3, 2017, says a press statement.

Professor Yunus received this award along with five other Nobel Laureates who were invited as the key speakers in the Congress. Chandra Babu Naidu the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and several Union Minister as well as good number of famous Indian scientists also spoke during the inauguration.

THE SPEAKERSincluding Indian PM Modi talked about India's science policy and how science and tech research is transforming Indian society and making it into a leader in the world.

The five-day sciense congress has brought together some of the best scientists from all over  India, some from abroad as well as key science policy makers and administrators; while some 20,000 researchers, teachers and students at all levels from all over India assembled in this beautiful temple city under the Tirumala Hills.
