Govt to approve Yunus' nursing college plan: Minister

Minister for Housing and Public Works Engineer Mosharraf Hossain said the government will approve the design for a nursing college in Chittagong within a week, reports bdnews24.com.

Dr Muhammad Yunus on Saturday alleged that it is 'difficult' to get government approval for projects carrying the name 'Grameen'.

The Nobel Peace laureate brought the allegation on the second day of the three-day 180th anniversary celebrations of Chittagong Collegiate School.

He particularly mentioned the nursing college project. He said it would be possible to establish the college fast, once the government approves it.

"But we would have to wait until they approve it."

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the celebrations on Sunday, Mr Mosharraf said a 1.5-acre piece of land had been taken from the Chittagong Development Authority on behalf of 'Grameen Kalyan'.

"But no plan for the nursing college or hospital has been submitted. I respect him very much. We will surely approve the plan within a week from submission," he added.

About Yunus' regret that government officials "do not want to handle projects named after 'Grameen' fearing trouble", the minister said: "We feel rather happy when we see 'Grameen'."

Chattagram Collegiates President and Dainik Azadi Editor MA Malek presided over the programme.
