Grameen Telecom arranges Social Biz Design 

 

Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) organized its 100th In-house Executive Social Business Design Lab Monday at Jobra, Chittagong, the birthplace of microcredit. A total of 2,789 NUs are in progress, who are turning unemployment into entrepreneurship and have created 2,368 jobs. In Nobin Udyokta (NU) Program, GTT supports through equity participation the next generation of potential entrepreneurs, aged between 18-35 years. For female the age limit is relaxed. NU may undertake start-ups, or may scale up existing family business and become sustainable entrepreneurs.    — Statement

Rice at Tk 10 programme begins today

The government is set to launch today (Wednesday) a programme for selling rice at Tk 10 per kilogram to 5 million poor families to ensure for them the supply of staple food grain during the lean season, officials said. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the nationwide "Food Friendly Programme for the Ultra Poor" at a public rally at Chilmari Pilot High School ground of Kurigram district. Officials familiar with the process said under the programme, first of its kind in the country, specia cards would be issued for poor people who would get 30 kilograms of rice a month for five months every year. The five months are: March, April, September, October and November. The food ministry already prepared a policy and allocated 0.55 million tonnes of rice for smooth operation of the programme from September to November this year and March to April next year.          — BSS

Bengal receives licensee of popular CN characters

Bengal Polymer Wares Limited, a concern of Bengal Group of Industries, recently launched new product range branded with Ben 10, Power-puff girls, Tom & Jerry, Scooby Doo & Looney Tunes targeting kids and corporate market segment. The launching ceremony was held at a city hotel on Monday. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, MP was present as the chief guest in the programme. He said, Bengal Polymer Wares Limited respects and adhere to the law of country by legally entering into a licensee agreement with CN. Bengal as a Bangladeshi brand is creating a sharing platform in the export and domestic market by offering quality and innovative products to its consumers, the minister said. Morshed Alam, MP, chairman of Bengal Group of Industries, as a special guest, gave thanks of note to all the corporate professionals for attending the ceremony and their contribution that helped Bengal to grow. — Statement
